Licensure for the practice of medicine is granted on a state-by-state basis. Graduation from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine meets one of the basic requirements for licensure in all 50 states. Graduates are referred to the licensing board in each state in which they have interest in licensure to obtain the specific requirements.
Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)/Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). COCA is recognized as the accrediting agency for colleges of osteopathic medicine by the United States Department of Education and the Council of Postsecondary Accreditation (COPA). CCOM is currently accredited through 2023. Graduates are eligible to take the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Exam (COMLEX) series of examinations leading to licensure as a physician.
Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) program is designed to meet the educational requirements to become licensed to practice medicine in all 50 states.
Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine has not made a determination that its Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine curriculum meets the territorial educational requirements for licensure or certification in the following territories: Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Students in this program receive a direct notification that Midwestern University has not made a determination if their program meets the requirements in the above listed territories.
In addition, all Osteopathic Medicine graduates must complete a graduate medical education program
(residency training program) to become licensed to practice.
Each student should check the additional licensure requirements for the state, district or territory in which they intend to pursue employment.
