This course is a basic introduction to research. It is intended to teach students the basic principles of the research process to foster understanding of the clinical literature and the steps necessary to develop a unique clinical study. Topics covered in this course will enable students to critically evaluate papers in clinical and basic science research. The theoretical and practical content areas of the course include: uses, values, and limitations of the scientific method; quantitative, qualitative and descriptive research techniques; research design methods; instructions on how to conduct a systematic review; and the process of conducting a clinical trial.
