This elective course provides dental students in their fourth year with a focused introduction to the properties, handling, and clinical application of dental amalgam, with an emphasis on developing foundational operative skills. Students will review the physical and mechanical properties of amalgam, biocompatibility, principles of amalgam management, and contrast clinical applications between amalgam and composite resin. Through a combination of didactic sessions and hands-on demonstrations, students will gain practical experience in amalgam manipulation, including condensation, carving, and finishing techniques. The course is designed to reinforce safe handling practices, material selection considerations, and the development of precise operative techniques applicable to clinical practice.
